Institution Innovation Council and Start-up Cell
Objective: The objective of IIC is to create an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship focused on pharmaceutical education and research.
Policy:
The following policies govern the operations, governance, and support mechanisms of the IIC. They apply to all stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners associated with the college for 30 days or more. The policies are designed to be flexible, with periodic reviews every three years or as per MoE updates.
- Scope and Applicability
- Focus on pre-incubation and early-stage innovation in pharmaceutical domains, progressing to full incubation.
- Encourage participation in MoE-mandated activities, such as quarterly innovation challenges and IPR facilitation.
- Policies may be amended to align with national (e.g., Startup India, Atmanirbhar Bharat) and institutional priorities in pharmacy education.
- Governance and Structure
- Leadership: Chaired by the Head of Institute, with the President and Vice-President nominated amongst the faculty by HOI
- Composition: The committee includes staff members nominated by the HOI as convenor, start-up activity co-ordinator, innovation ambassador, IPR coordinator, media coordinator, NIRF coordinator, Training and Placement Cell member, NSS incharge for school activity coordination, industry expert and a non teaching staff.
- Decision-Making: Quarterly meetings of the IIC Core Committee; major decisions (e.g., funding approvals) require HoI approval.
- Infrastructure and Facilities
- Utilize existing labs for prototyping, with dedicated co-working spaces (Wi-Fi, AV equipment, and virtual mentoring tools).
- Virtual platforms for remote ideation, especially for collaborative projects with industry partners.
- Nurturing Innovations and Entrepreneurship
- Student Support: Allow semester deferral (up to one) for startup pursuits, with academic credits for innovation projects. Partial attendance for hackathons/internships as per PCI norms.
- Faculty Engagement: Sabbaticals or reduced teaching loads for mentoring startups; consulting in pharma R&D counted toward service obligations.
- IPR Policy Integration: All innovations routed through the IPR Cell. College retains 20-30% equity in student-led startups; full ownership for faculty inventions per MoU. Progression Pathway: Ideation → Pre-incubation (6 months mentoring) → Incubation → Commercialization, with milestones tracked regularly.
- Collaborations and Knowledge Sharing
- Bi-directional exchanges: Guest lectures from entrepreneurs, student visits to industry R&D labs, and alumni mentoring sessions.
- Activities and Calendar
- Mandatory MoE Activities: Follow the quarterly MIC calendar, including “My Story” sessions with pharma entrepreneurs, IPR workshops, and mini-challenges on sustainable healthcare.
- Self-Driven Initiatives: Organizing Research Competitions, Annual Pharma Innovation Fest (hackathon + expo), ideation camps (2/year).
- Promotion and Inclusivity
- Leverage social media and student clubs for awareness campaigns.
- Post all activities (pre-event and post event) on social media.
- Review and Amendments
- Reviewed triennially by the IIC, with stakeholder feedback. Amendments approved by HOI and notified via the college portal.
